Title: OPH111 Advanced Ophthalmic Procedures PART II 

Course Description:

This course is part II of a two-part course. The student will develop competencies in advanced diagnostic testing, Optical Coherence Tomography, corneal topography, anterior segment photography, fundus photography, retinal imaging, B-scan and A-scan ultrasonography with biometric IOL calculations. Introduction to surgical assisting of minor-in-office and operating room procedures, including proper surgical scrubbing and hand washing techniques, maintaining sterile technique, and the preparation of instrumentation, will provide the foundation for further advancement in clinical responsibilities.

Learning Outcomes: 

As a result of taking this course the student will be able to:

Describe the methods of performing and the indications for biometry.

Perform IOL calculations for surgery.

Discuss indications and application of corneal topography in the clinical setting.

Explain photographic images of the ocular fundus.

Describe the indications and process of obtaining a fluorescein angiogram

Demonstrate retinal imaging using different methods 

Discuss the indications and application of corneal pachymetry and endothelial cell count.

Discuss the evaluation of the anterior chamber and angle depth using a gonioprism 

Describe the indications and use of different lenses and instruments used to examine the ocular fundus.

Discuss the indications and application of the B-Scan ultrasound evaluation in the clinic setting.
